My parents being teachers could not come here without teaching me something new. Now I know that this funny fellow of a tree is called ‘Joshua Tree’:
Anyway, after having spent a few days in Tempe, with just enough time to see parts of Phoenix and check on Luis…
… we were on the road going North from Phoenix. First stop was Montezuma Well and Castle, the latter built next to the Beaver creek by prehistoric Sinagua farmers.
On the way up we passed through beautiful Sedona with a short coffee break:
After a stay in Williams, the GC awaited us in morning glory:
Next sleepover was in Page before seeing Horseshoe bend and entering Zion National Park:
But we are far from done with Zion just yet. After one night at the Bumbleberry Inn and a (more than) strengthening breakfast we were ready to go hiking.
One thing that is very special in Zion, is the rocks that wheep; water trickles down inside the sandstone, but when it hits a harder layer (like granit) it gets pushed out!
The Sinawava temple part is probably what did it for me though. Zion is my favorite national park!
But as that last photo shows, you really need special shoes to keep going up The Narrows so we saved that one for next trip.
The final destination before returning to Phoenix (because my parents were flying to LA for a few extra days in the Southwest) was Vegas, but I’ll end here with the part that I liked the most.
